questions that you may have

Post by Arrietty's Mom on Wed Mar 21, 2012 11:53 pm

I live in a small city in NorthWest, Ohio. I am the mommy to one sugar glider, Arrietty. She is about 7 weeks out of pouch and totally "crabby" all the time. We are having trouble bonding. Does anyone have any suggestions besides the bonding pouch. Getting her in and out of it is always stressful for her (and me.) She bites hard for such a little girl. Sad I want more than anything to be able to have a special bond with Arrietty.
She is on the BLM diet and she has plenty of toys and a large cage. She has an exercise wheel and she plays all night. When I got her she had loose stools due to the inadequate diet she was on, but she was also "more tame". I could hold her and play with her and now she has turned into a totally different baby.

I hope to find a lot of useful information here and have a long, happy relationship with my "baby."

Hi and welcome to Suggie World flower
not sure what type of sleeping pouch you have but try to use the sleeping pouch as a bonding pouch this way you will not have to move her from pouch to pouch Just sit and watch tv for a while. work your hand into it slowly .
read the pouch bonding method and maybe this will help.

Keep in touch and let us know how it works out for you
thanks

Thanks for the tip Paulette....I'm going to be doing the bonding pouch more often since that does seem to be the best way to bond. I don't want a sugar glider that I cannot interact with, that is why I only got one because I wanted her to bond to me. She is so darling (when she is sleeping!!) lol Could the diet be too much for her, or is it just because she was not getting an adequate diet and now she feels better? I just want what is best for her.

Krystyne:
How old is Arrietty now?
Has she seen a vet for a fecal and wellness exam?
What do you mean she was "more tame". She might have jusy settled or been scared by you is why she is changed her behavior.

Just make sure she doesn't escape out of the sleeping pouch unless you are in a safe room. Or when you want to start night time playtime. You can interact with her at night by giving treats, and talking to her and letting her see you while she is safe in her cage. What size cage do you have?

Do you have large sleeping smell blankets for her. Sometimes you can use one of them when you pick her up and put in bonding pouch.
As long as she is comfortable once in the bonding pouch or you can calm her down if she gets disturbed.

Some more info on what you are doing(please be specific) with her might help to guide you and your baby in the right direction, so you both can enjoy and have fun together.
