Hi everybody :)

Post by mzazu on Sat Oct 01, 2011 1:30 am

Hi!
I live in Australia, where sugar gliders are native. I got two sugar gliders 1 week ago-Snugglepot and Cuddlepie- and they are adorable, although Cuddlepie bites really hard when it is unhapppy (such as being picked up or disturbed when it is in the pouch). I am currently sitting down with Snugglepot in her pouch, grooming herself. It's adorable Smile

confused Hello, I live in Albany NY and I have had my twins for 5 months now. I am having the same problem as MZAZU I can not pick them up, I have them trained to go in to the pouch to come out of the cage to play and they will run all over me, There is no issue of taking treats from my hands and as long as they have a treat that they are eating I also can pet them. When they are in the pouch I try and put my hand on the side of one of them and wiggle my fingers under them, but they just are not having anything to do with it (they do not bite) So I'm not sure on how to get them to let me handle them

Hi Upsoon:
Have you tried cupping them in the poiuch as they sleep to get them use to your hand near or around them.

I saw what you first did with them while a person was teaching you.
I wondered what the result might be that YOU went OVER the top of them to pet them. I saw the post on "Out for blood". I really don't ever go over the top a baby or adult sugar glider until they know me some.

You may want to sit with hand in or drapped over them in the pouch. Do not try to pick or scoop them up yet. Let them get comfortable with your hand in pouch. IF you want try it for 15- an hour and come back and post results.

Maya's gliders are diff as she got bit when catching and they didn't want to come to her in an outside aviary. Plus the lights on in the bathroom.
How are the babies doing?

Very Happy When you put your hand in the pouch is it day time or night time. day time they are sleeping so maybe you put your hand in pouch off to one side as they go back to sleep slowly slip your hand under them from the back side and just hold them that way for a while no wiggling fingers that just will wake them and you do not want that just yet. Do this for a few days and see if there is a difference or not
If it is night time they are awake and want to play not be held do your holding during the day
Please let me know if this helps you any
And Mzazu maybe you too can try this.
